The King of Tears

The King of Tears

I've met him a few times before. Occasionally, we'll cross paths when something has gone terribly wrong or when I come to my wit's end (which has happened more than once).

He doesn't have a set agenda when he arrives, and he stays as long as he's welcome. Honestly, the hardest thing is to be vulnerable in front of him. But even if I wasn't, he'd still see right through me and want to know the real problem I'm wrestling with.

I've read up on his exploits, too. When a beloved family summoned him to come and heal one of their own, he delayed his response. He knew what he was doing and what the final outcome would be. The brother had died and the sisters were beside themselves in anguish and grief.

Again, he knew the outcome. Yet, he still wept.

Emotion (founded in love) was not beyond him and still isn't to this day.

Yes, he is King, but he is not so far out of our humanity that he doesn't empathize with the weaknesses that you and I face on a regular basis. He faced them, too, and conquered them. Under the scrutiny of fallen man's knife, he remained perfection (and still remains perfection).

When people recall of his glorious qualities, most remark on what you and I would deem positive qualities. They would say, "Oh, he's incredibly loving," or "He provides for those who follow him."

Little do people see his tears.

Where there is injustice in the world, God sheds His tears.

Where there is one who is lost while 99 enjoy His kingdom, God sheds His tears.

Where the Church doesn't extend love and instead forges prejudice, God sheds His tears.

Where brother and sister should be encouraging and lifting one another up in faith and works but bring about destruction and discord instead, God sheds His tears.

Yes, He is mighty and all-sufficient and knows the outcome, but that doesn't mean that He doesn't shed His tears.

You may be going through something so terrible or so difficult that it's brought you to a place of desolation. If you're there, you're not alone. The King of Tears is by your side and knows the pain and sense of loss you personally feel.
