Valentine Outreach
Last Friday, we had the opportunity with our students to let the girls at the VCU campus know about God's love for them by giving them a rose with a card attached to it that gave a bible verse from either Jeremiah 29:11 or 1 John 4:9.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.”
It's not everyday that a girl gets a rose from a guy who has no other agenda than to let the girl know that God cares for them. The guys of our fellowship dressed up (and looked pretty sharp!) to hand out the roses. We handed out close to 400 roses to the girls on campus! It was great to see the girls' expressions literally change once they were handed a rose.
A couple of ladies were out walking and saw one of our students handing out roses as he approached them to hand each one of them one. They asked him, "What's so amazing about Jesus Christ?" He, of course, told them and told them who we were and what we're all about. How cool is that?!
The event (in my opinion) was a great success. It was cool to see our students really take ownership of this opportunity and see it as a "outside the box" approach to evangelism. We hope that our efforts will stretch farther than we imagine in reaching students with the love of Jesus on campus here at VCU
